It is with a very heavy heart that we are announcing that we have decided to take a bit of a break from Last. There are many reasons for this but the biggest is to spend more quality time with family.
These last couple of years have been CRAZY and it’s been incredibly difficult being a relatively young social enterprise trying to make any money in this environment. As lockdown has eased this has left even less time for us to dedicate the time needed to get a business off the ground.
Squeezing everything into our weeks – my incredibly complex and brain busting day job, Billy’s work, attempting to keep the house clean and check off our life admin lists – mean that being the best parents we can be (which is the most important of all the jobs!) has been challenging. Not to mention that we faced an incredibly challenging time with the loss of our dearest friend and colleague Scott in the midst of starting up.
We have an AMAZING team of volunteers working with us and this has made the decision to take a break even harder. They have done a brilliant job making Last the brand that it is today and I cannot thank them enough.
Having children is something you just can’t imagine before it happens. We started Last when we had no idea what it would entail. We were happy to spend our evenings and weekends running a business. It was much more fulfilling than sitting in front of the TV. But now… well. Running the business now eats into quality time with our daughter which is another matter altogether.
This is not the end of Last but it is an extended break. We will be closing our online shop on the 18th of December – giving you time to pick up your Christmas essentials before then! After that we will be taking a break to take stock of where we’re at and consider other opportunities to move the business forward. We are not putting a time limit on this though as we are putting family first! We are still as passionate about the environment and the climate crisis as ever so will be trying to figure out the best way that Last can make an impact whilst fitting in with the rest of our lives.
